I felt during this weekend that time is hanging heavily on my hands , so I spent my time in writing this blog post.

As a freak, I would like to sneak a peek  into the unique personality of a true legend in our lifetime and share some titbits. Please bear in mind that this post is shared absolutely because it piques my intellect and definitely not at all a critique. Beware, this post could be as long as the Kamal’s career-52 years (he turned 57 on Nov 07), perhaps the longest in my list.

Rendezvous with the Revered artist:

            Long... long …ago ,on one bright summer day, in torrid sun, our family was hurtling in the heavy traffic on a Chetak scooter (I was a fourth or fifth grade kid standing in the front with hands resting on the handle’s mound, my small bro in mother’s lap at the back and father throttling the roaring Engine) in Vijayawada city. Our goal was to catch a glimpse of the just released controversial film.

Only to find  there a big board saying – “house-full”. Dad managed to get tickets in black of course at double the original price. We were delighted and I remember with childish enthusiasm we watched the movie but sadly sitting at different places.

We had a motto- Once we decide to watch a film be it rain or sun, we would “go great guns” J and it still applies to this day.

The movie is none other than - Bharateeyudu a.ka. Hindustani/INDIAN- My rendezvous with the (most) revered film artist in Indian cinema happened. Ever Since my fascination with Kamal and Subhas Chandra Bose (Netaji) took roots and has grown leaps and bounds with time. (I will save my adoration for Netaji in future blog post :P) I was spellbound with the performance. My mother said the old Kamal (Senapathy with silver hair) resembles her father and to this day, my friends (while they were watching for the first time)say that they never recognized that Kamal played a dual role in that film  – no surprise it fetched him the third National award.

I never missed any opportunity to watch his films be it in Movie Theater, on T.V or by VCP (video Casette player).

Everest as an actor:

He started as a child artiste and starred in 200 films till date in major Indian languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalaam and Hindi. A polyglot: He is so versatile that he learnt many languages - not just speak but very fluently in Tamil, English, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, Bengali, Kannada and French. 

I have compiled the greatest scenes that I could lay my hands on.Hope you people enjoy it ! Don’t worry about the language -his emotions&action defy language barriers -just watch it (I seriously doubt if you can finish reading this post, if you do so L ).

Kamal has the highest nominations from India for Oscars . He truly deserves an Oscar- rather Oscar Deserves Him . He never gave any heck of thought or cussing as he knows he already got Indian Oscar- National Award. He proudly says that Indian Actors need not cry or crave for a foreign acknowledgement of our Indian Talent.

People often say that if Kamal were born in a foreign land like USA - he would have got International Recognition and base. I beg to differ (as Balachander said) only becuase of INDIAn diversity he developed into a Versatile actor.

 8. Next Bharath Ratna- I am Sure he will be awarded the highest civilian award - Bharath Rathna. Many people would be pumping their chests with pride watching that moment in awe and admiration.(I hope to live to witness that glory)

Personal Life:

Despite his celebrated film career, the media often exploited him for his relationships that went sour because of promiscuity with younger actresses. I personally believe that very talented persons have been like that for example- Charlie Chaplin – Chaplin was married four times and had a total of 11 children

He encourages debates and discussion on socially relevant issues and never shies away to express his opinion. He is an atheist and completely rational at heart. He always tries hard to portray the same as a writer in his works. (Anbe Sivam is a masterpiece in that).

“Viswaroopam”. After watching the trailer, it is amazing to see a 57 year old guy dancing as a classical dance master and at the same time playing the role of a Secret agent.And he is the producer,director ,hero and writer,lyricist all rolled into one .

Tryst with Hollywood:

If the reports are true then kamal is gearing up for a big Hollywood project.

He will be making his Hollywood debut with The Lord of the Rings producer Barrie Osborne, who hopes to tell an Indian story in Hollywood style. The international filmmaker says Kamal is like a cinema encyclopedia. No wonder because Kamal has been keenly observing the trends in Hollywood from several decades and always ready to experiment.

Kamal and Osborne announced their tie-up at the recently held International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) weekend in Singapore.

Hope this project will make his title – Universal Hero – more meaningful and historic

Limitations….. No way?

He inspires me a lot. His works -provoke us to think deeply. Artistry- titillates our spirits of NavaRasa  .Energises and entertains our souls making our hearts warm.

 His intrepid themes and subjects push us to question our limits.

It is not at all an exagerration to say -Countless artists especially film artists are inspired for a lifetime and dedicated their life for films Only becuase of Kamal .

He is well known for tweaking his body for his projects brutally and with complete dedication.

LIB ? No, It has to be LIE !

Last weekend I was volunteering as an YFS member at Rodha Mistry College & social welfare association, Gachibowli.It all started when I decided to develop my leadership abilities and to look at the real world without rose-tinted glasses. I chose that particular organisation as it is very near to my house saving the time for commute. I reached there at 10 AM, called up Prakash (a senior, seasoned volunteer, who works at Microsoft).He is little late and expected to be there in 15 minutes.

                I parked my car and started rambling around in that morning lovely fresh air. I crossed the stubby bushes ahead and thrilled to see a small pond blanketed with water plants. In there, I see a black Duckling that stays calm on the surface but paddling like hell underneath, leaving a thick trail on the water. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a flash of thought crossed my mind- what if I encounter a snake! – a pure Intuition. Believe it or not, Iam stupefied to see the next moment, a slender snake swimming sleazily, slowly and vanishing into the water plants that were floating.(I always used to boast that I rely on intuition and I was not proud there at that moment because Snake is not a friendly visitor)

I relished the scenic beauty for full 10 minutes and delighted to be there so early on a Sunday morning and said as if in a rhapsody- WOW Nature is beauty and of course, Life Is Beautiful!

I followed Prakash into a small room, where a batch of 10-12 students of varied age group sitting in the chairs and trying to listen to the regular trainer. After introductions, we all moved to a bigger room with space for squatting on the floor. Then began my favourite hobby- a Yoga session by Prakash and everyone religiously followed doing all Sukshma Asanas and small breathing Exercise.

I noticed that these participants are physically challenged (with deformed limbs either hands/legs) and looks like Underprivileged coming from the poorest sections of the society. I am told that this batch will be trained for 2 months in several areas such as computer handling, read/write/calculate simple things, and how to talk to people. At the end, they would be put in retail places like Hyper city etc., where they will be working as billing operator or such small chores that are not physically or mentally intensive so that they will start earning their own bread.

Later Prakash painstakingly explained the basics of word document for an hour. Believe me this training is so beneficial to those sapped souls, not in terms of knowledge but as an opportunity for them to talk to outside people. I was terrified how much patience I need to have them explain at such a level suitable for their understanding. As the session ended, I spoke with them that as a new volunteer there, I would be taking the session next week.

I started leaving the place in deep train of thoughts and introspection – their faces never leaving my mental plane for the rest of the day, the next day and even the subsequent day. No wonder that King Siddhartha (who lead a sequestered life) turned into Gautama Buddha.

Frankly speaking, they are the people left behind in the society. Some studied up to 10^th grade, some up to 12^th and 1 or 2 till bachelor degree. They neither possess the basic skills of read/write or articulate ideas nor the cognitive abilities to develop such skills. Nevertheless, they look like simple, pure souls with worn-out bodies and years of inferiority complex warped into their brains. When they smile, ironically I felt very sad and had an eerie feeling of sympathy & shock. I blurted out the famous quote- “Life Is a Bitch! and then you die.

For the first time in my life, I felt sorry and Lucky at the same moment. Sorry because such a precarious thing called Birth is THE deciding factor for a person’s destiny and Lucky because GOD has given me a perfect body with modest means to make a mark on this world. However, the journey is riddled with many challenges and obstacles; I should work on them scripting my own movie, I being the protagonist.

I often used to go into deep depression, in which my mind gets sticky, touchy and trepidation for several days together for various reasons. With my parents love and friends’ encouraging words, I recuperate to succour and sense of living.

From now on, I think depression will be the thing of the past as I realise how lucky Iam – Everything is laid down for me: a healthy body ,good intellect, lovely friends and a modest career. I  clearly know with my goals and aspirations the path ahead would not be easy but atleast I have the means to meet the end. Figuratively speaking, I know the road and I have the legs to walk but only time can tell if I reach the destiny of my journey.

When I look back at this writing at any point in my life,  I would be really happy to have shared these musings with you my dear friends (Iam not sure if you have made (read) at this point).Because, I have  pledged at this very moment that I will sponsor education for an orphan or a physically challenged kid -starting from next 2 years and continue till my death.

Fundamentally, I used to not believe in charity from an intellectual standpoint

Great indebtedness does not make men grateful, but vengeful; and if a little charity is not forgotten, it turns into a gnawing worm ---- Nietzsche

But when you look at the people in distress my belief system vanishes into smithereens – Iam willing to help the needy in whatever way I can.

I remember the quote from the English lesson about Mother Teresa in my tenth grade:

So LIB is neither Life is Beautiful nor Life is Bitch .According to me it is a LIE.

I mean LIE-> Life is an Enigma  and Let us live it. lead it  with dignity, pride and without prejudice.

Love- the spate that never abates

Bemused by the sparkle in the eyes,

Passions run without any cover.

Iam getting ‘long in the tooth’ in this youth

Forgive my naivety for uncouth.

Spread the fragrance of sooth love,

& save my soul from banishing to hell,

as there is no time to kewl.

I wonder my dear, love begets love?

I believe love is an inescapable phase of one’s life. Almost all of you experienced this and called it love. Yet, I agree with the philosopher who said” love is the filthiest thing on earth”. As rightly said relationship is based on what ones get  out of it – a simple give and take. But we don’t accept the truth as it is terrifying pulling the earth beneath our legs.

I think the word love has been battered so many times that we don’t know what exactly is it. All most all the movies revolve around this thing potraying either  so called pure  love between hero & heroine or emotional crap of a family drama.

But we love to watch them, adore and emulate. So I guess IT does serve some social purpose as does the concept of God, which sprang from its source- Fear. God do serve the purpose of maintaining some speck of sanity in our insane mind.

Therefore, love is nothing but to have relationship for mutual gratification. We search for beautiful, harmonious and perfect love. The idea of perfectness doesnot exists at all and this creates conflict.

The search is never ending .As nocturnal bees that are attracted to the light of the fire & killed eventually; we search in vain and end in despair.

I hope instead that we rise like a phoenix and love thyself.

Hope –an invisible rope

Hi Friends,

I just want to share a story from "Tales and Parables of Sri Ramakrishna".

My skeptical mind doesnot believe in anything such as any God or babas .But Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa is an Exception. I donno why I believe in him , may be iam a hypochrite.

But Let me tell you one thing: whenever I lose hope or drown into depression, I recall this particular story and regain a ray of hope and plunge myself into activity.

Iam reproducing the story exactly as it is published in the RK matt’s book:

ONCE the son of a certain man lay at the point of

death, and it seemed that none could save his life.

A sadhu, however, said to the father of the dying

son: "There is but one hope. If you can get in a

human skull the venom of a cobra mixed with a

few drops of rain-water under the constellation of

the Svati star, your son's life, can be saved." The

father looked up the almanac and found that the

constellation of the Svati would be in the

ascendant on the morrow. So he prayed, saying, "O

Lord, do Thou make possible all these conditions,

and spare the life of my son." With extreme

earnestness and longing in his heart, he set out on

the following evening and diligently searched in a

deserted spot for a human skull. At last he found

one under a tree, held it in the hand, and waited for

the rain, praying. Suddenly a shower came, and a

few drops of rain were deposited in the upturned

skull. The man said to himself, "Now I have the

water in the skull under the right constellation."

Then he prayed earnestly, "Grant, O Lord, that the

rest may also be obtained." In a short time he

discovered, not far from there, a toad, and a cobra

springing to catch it. In a moment the toad jumped

over the skull, followed by the cobra whose venom

fell into the skull. With overwhelming gratitude the

anxious father cried out: "Lord, by Thy grace even

impossible things are made possible. Now, I know

that my son's life will be saved."

Therefore, I say, if you have true faith and earnest

longing, you will get everything by the grace of the Lord.

Hope it might help someone, because- I am witness to such miracles (as story is just a metaphor) in my own life. As they are personal, I would not like to share them.

I would like to end with a punch dialogue from Khaleja movie (Trivikram Srinivas)- " అద్భుతం జరిగెటప్పుడు ఎవరు గుర్తించరు. అద్భుతం జరిగిన తరువాత గుర్తించాల్సిన పని లెదు."

Presentation and its power

Today, after much procrastination, I watched the much-hyped film –“EEGA”. The revenge story of a fly –looks so funny right how a fly can take revenge? Poor fly. Yes, this foolish figment of imagination is the USP of this film. It not only provokes you to watch, but also make you wonder –“how on earth a director can narrate such a silly story and be successful at box-office. Need any clues? Just watch the film and check out the hysteria that ensued after its release.

After watching, I fully grasped three P s: Planning, propaganda(marketing) and Presentation. Look at the way the story has been fed to our minds at the audio release. Also the visuals of the animations are carefully gleaned to craft a intriguing narrative that cannot be afforded to miss. Definitely , I felt at the end that Rajamouli made a Shankar out of himself with such a innovative and technically brilliant film.

After watching ,his previous flick- Magadheera ,three years back,I had mixed bag of criticisms. Obvious is the copy cat story –a quilt made from many a cloth.But what is the binding thing is the narrative, though definitely not compelling but hard to miss.I concluded that the director will be a good story teller and that’s it .But with “Maryada Ramanna” the depth of his caliber is put forward. Yet, again the audience were wooed by the compelling narrative of a common man and got immersed empathizing the protagonist.That is nothing but pure presentation.

Coming back to our current protagonist—Fly , the admiring thing about EEGA is narration and screenplay prevails over the technical kniity-griitys of the animation .Infact , both compliments one another and evoke a catalystic effect on the silver screen.

There are moments of illogic, but who cares boss? when EEGA is thrashing the baddy ,Sudeep and there comes a point where you feel Sudeep is the heart of the film.The performance is outstanding –I cannot forget the scene where he kills his own partner, heeding to his very advise. There is no wonder why Rajnikant called on Sudeep as “I thought I was the best villain to date. But you beat me to it” .

Fly,as a hero-imagine how the story would be before watching it.How naïve? Clearly what made the box office ringing ?made people frenzy the first week? –Three P’s .

Any story,any concept if presented well would truly connect to the audience.There is no other bigger evidence than EEGA.The planning is flawless right from the audio release,promotion and to its release. The USP paid off and Still if you are not convinced –
